Female choir “Kir Stefan the Serb” was founded on October 5th 1993, in Smederevo. The choir is
named after Kir Stefan the Serb ( Kir Stefan Srbin), domestic-choirmaster at the court of George Brancovich ( Đurađ
Branković), who was born around 1459. and originally from Greece, he left many important music masterpieces of
that epoch. One of the most popular and the most important piece is “Ninja Sili”. Ninja Sili is a part of the Liturgy of
Presanctified Gifts ( Liturgija Pređeosvećenih Darova), which is also at the repertoire of choir.
The members of choir are girls age 12-21 years, and most of them are high school students.
First greater success was bronze medal at the Youth Choir Competition in Novi Pazar in May 1994,
and after that first win at the same festival next year and winning gold medals.
After those successes, the choir was guest at the International Choir Competition , in 1995, in Carditsa,
Greece, where had an honor to open an competition.
In March 1996, the choir has won two prices, bronze and silver, at the International competition in
Riva del Garda, Italy.
The June 1996, brought back choir to domestic scene, where has received a special award for authentic
performance of Serbian spiritual music, within the 16th Yugoslav Choral Celebrations in Nis.
In September 1996, the choir has debut in the Gallery of Frescoes, where contribute to the maintaining
the ceremony “Choirs among frescoes”.
April 1997. brings an evening concert an Kolarac in Belgrade, which is preparation for the upcoming
International competitions.
In May 1997, in Czech Republic, the birth place of Bedrich Smetana, Litomyšl, choir wins two first
prizes in the categories of spiritual music and female choirs.
Summer Spiritual Academy in Studenica, which includes the evening concerts of the most eminent
choirs from Yugoslavia, represents the biggest challenge for the bests. In July 1997. choir performs an
evening concert. After that followed many invitations, and one of them is opening Vuk´s Assembly in
Trsic, September, 1997.
After a month, in October 1997, the choir goes to Italy, for the second time, to the International
competition in Riva del Garda, where had won two first prizes in categories of spiritual and folk music,
among another 90 choirs from countries all over the Europe.
In December 1997, the choir travels on a shorter tour in Hungary where held concerts in Serbian
high school in Budapest and Szeged as a guest maestro dr Djerdja Mikhalkov and his female and
mixed choir
